Construction of Iran National Ion Therapy Center, IRNitc, launched with a groundbreaking ceremony on 15 May 2017 in Karaj city, Alborz province. The Ceremony was hold in the presence of Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi, Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif Khonsari, Minister of Health and Medical Education Seyyed Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi Ambassador Friedrich Stift, MedAustron Supervisory Board Chairman Klaus Schneeberger and MedAustron Managing Director Alfred Zens.
The IRNitc has the capacity of servicing 25000 radiotherapy sessions and treatment of 1200 patients per year in three irradiation rooms. It has a synchrotron-based facility base on a contract with the MedAustron ion Therapy Center in Austria.
The construction of its joint hospital will last three years and with a commissioning period of two years, will be ready to accept and treat patients.
IRNitc and its joint hospital provide the most state of art cancer treatment techniques with their facility and will be a unique cancer ion therapy treatment in West Asia.
